About Us

Empowering Confidence and Independence

Occupational Therapy supports children and young people to engage in everyday activities that are meaningful, such as: playing, learning, building friendships, and developing their independence.

As recognised by the Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT, 2024), these ‘occupations’ are essential for an individual’s wellbeing, development, and sense of purpose.

We are an independent occupational therapy service supporting young people with SEND, including social, emotional and mental health (SEMH), sensory, motor, functional, and neurodevelopmental needs.

We offer specialist, sensory informed assessments, including motor and functional observations, alongside evidence-based interventions and practical, easy-to-apply advice for home and school.

At OT8, we understand that everyday environments and daily tasks can feel overwhelming for some young people. They may experience sensory overload, find it difficult to interpret or respond to their surroundings, or at times feel unsafe and unsettled. These challenges can make it harder for a young person to participate in meaningful activities, develop new skills, and engage in everyday life with confidence.

Differences in sensory processing can significantly affect how young people experience and respond to the world around them. These differences may influence their emotions, behaviour, attention, and ability to participate in everyday activities, often shaping how they engage with learning, relationships, and daily routines.

As part of our values-based therapeutic approach, we recognise the importance of a calm, engaging environment and the positive role nature and outdoor experiences can play in supporting sensory processing, emotional regulation, wellbeing, movement, and connection.

This approach also helps us develop a deeper, more holistic understanding of each young person’s strengths, needs, and preferences, enabling us to provide tailored recommendations and strategies that empower families, caregivers, and educational staff to support ongoing development and wellbeing.

Being, Belonging and Doing

Being • Belonging • Doing

  • Being: We see and value each child as they are, celebrating individuality while supporting emotional wellbeing and recognising each young person’s unique sensory experiences and needs.

  • Belonging: We create safe, inclusive spaces where children and families feel accepted, understood, and connected.

  • Doing: We focus on meaningful participation, helping children engage in everyday activities with confidence and purpose.

  • Child-Centred Practice: Every child’s voice, interests, and strengths guide our approach.

  • Collaboration: We work in partnership with families, schools, and professionals to provide consistent, joined-up support.

  • Growth Through Experience: We believe children learn best through real-life, hands-on, experiential play based activities.
